The most common questions about Botox, hyaluronic acid, costs and the process at the VIVA DERM private practice in Essen – answered briefly and honestly.
The basics.
Who treats at VIVA DERM?
Exclusively Katayoun Mostaghimi, specialist in general medicine with DGBT certification. Consultation, treatment and follow-up stay in one pair of hands.
Does VIVA DERM offer laser treatments, laser therapy or training courses?
No. VIVA DERM offers no laser or IPL treatments and no laser therapy – anyone who needs them is referred to a dermatology practice. Nor are there any training courses, workshops or classes for third parties (such as laser, NiSV or injection courses): VIVA DERM treats patients only, with botulinum toxin, hyaluronic acid, skin-quality procedures, PRP, lipolysis and infusions.
Do I need a consultation first?
Consultation and treatment are usually possible in the same appointment if nothing speaks against it after examination and consultation. You can also come for a consultation only (€50, credited against a treatment).
How long does a first appointment take?
About 30 to 45 minutes including conversation, examination and – if wanted – treatment.
Are before/after pictures shown?
No. For Botox and filler treatments that is not permitted in Germany under the Health Advertising Act (Federal Court ruling 2025). What is realistic is explained in the consultation.
Which languages are spoken?
German, English and Farsi.
From what age is treatment possible?
From 18. There is no upper limit; health and expectations decide.
Questions about Botox.
When does Botox start working, and how long does it last?
First effect after 2–3 days, full effect after about two weeks. Durability usually 3–4 months for expression lines, 4–6 months for masseter or hyperhidrosis.
Will I look 'done'?
The aim is the opposite: dose and technique are chosen so facial movement is preserved. A mask-like expression comes from over-dosing – not from the substance itself.
What must I avoid after Botox?
Don't lie down or rub for four hours; no sport, sauna or alcohol for 24 hours.
Does the treatment hurt?
The needles are very fine; most people describe a brief prick. Anaesthesia is usually not needed.
Can Botox be used medically?
Yes: for hyperhidrosis (heavy sweating), bruxism (teeth grinding, masseter) and chronic migraine – each after examination and indication.

Ask via WhatsAppQuestions about fillers.
How long does hyaluronic acid last?
Depending on the area, 6 to 18 months: lips shorter, cheeks, chin and jawline longer.
Can filler be removed again?
Yes. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved within hours with the enzyme hyaluronidase. Permanent fillers are not used here.
How long is the swelling?
Usually two to five days; a little longer on the lips. The final result can be judged after about two weeks.
What is the biggest risk?
Very rare but serious: a vascular occlusion. That is why anatomical knowledge, blunt cannulas and hyaluronidase as an emergency medicine in the practice are decisive.
Botox or filler – which do I need?
Botulinum toxin for lines caused by muscle movement; hyaluronic acid for volume, contours and lines at rest. The two often complement each other.
Questions about prices.
What does a treatment cost?
Botulinum toxin from €190 per area, hyaluronic acid from €250 per millilitre (lips from €190), skin boosters/PRP from €250, infusions from €250. All guide prices; invoicing follows the GOÄ.
Why 'from' prices?
Because medical services are invoiced under the German scale of fees for physicians (GOÄ) according to effort. The exact amount is stated before the treatment.
Does health insurance pay?
Not for aesthetic treatments. For medical indications such as hyperhidrosis or chronic migraine, reimbursement by private insurance may be possible – please clarify beforehand.
Are there discounts or packages?
No. Discounts and package deals for medical services are not permitted in Germany.
