Thin lips.
Not every thin lip needs volume. Some need contour, some moisture, some just a little more visibility of the upper lip. Which case is yours.

Naturally thin lips or lips that have thinned with age: what hyaluronic acid can do for contour, fullness and moisture, which amount stays natural
What is behind it.
Three kinds of 'thin': (1) genetically thin lips with little red – here it is about volume and contour. (2) Lips that have thinned with age – the red rolls inward, the contour blurs, fine lines appear; here it is about contour, moisture and rolling the border back out. (3) An upper lip that disappears when smiling because the muscle rolls it in – here a 'lip flip' is often enough.
Hyaluronic acid: with 0.5 to 1 ml the contour can be redrawn, the red lightly filled and the border rolled outward. It stays natural if proportion (lower lip fuller) and profile (lips not beyond the nose–chin line) are respected. Durability six to twelve months.
Lip flip: a few units of botulinum toxin into the ring muscle of the upper lip relax the rolling-in; the upper lip shows more red when smiling – without volume. Subtle, inexpensive, two to three months. For anyone whose lip only disappears when smiling, that is often the better answer.
What does not help: 'lip plumpers' (brief irritation), needle-free hyaluron pens (not licensed, complications), exercises. And for everyone: first 0.5 ml, then see.
Is this for me?
A treatment can make sense if …
- your lips are naturally thin or have thinned over the years
- the contour is blurred, fine lines cross the border
- the upper lip disappears when smiling
- you want a subtle, proportioned result
Rather not suitable if …
- you currently have a herpes flare (postpone, possibly prophylaxis)
- you are pregnant or breastfeeding
- you want a strongly enlarged result in one session
- you tend to keloids or have active lip eczema

Frequently asked questions.
Lips or lip flip?
If the upper lip only disappears when smiling, the lip flip is often enough. If the lips are thin at rest, hyaluronic acid is needed.
Does it hurt?
Lip fillers contain lidocaine, plus numbing cream; most find it quite bearable.
