Lip fillers.
In a lip filler treatment, hyaluronic acid – a substance that also occurs naturally in the body – is placed precisely in the lip. Depending on your starting point it is about contour, volume, symmetry or hydration. Treatment is carried out personally by the physician in Essen-Rüttenscheid.

What is possible with lips.
Hyaluronic acid binds water and comes in different consistencies. For the lip that means the contour can be emphasised, lost volume balanced or an asymmetry evened out. Pure hydration treatments without visible volume are possible too.
How much makes sense depends on your starting shape, the tissue and your wish. In many cases a small amount is enough: 0.5 ml often suffices to define shape and contour. More material does not automatically mean a better result.
The filler is gradually broken down by the body. In the lip area it typically lasts about 6 to 12 months, depending on metabolism and product.

A good fit if …
- volume loss, contours or lines visible at rest
- a wish for a natural, reversible result
- healthy adults with realistic expectations
Rather not if …
- pregnancy or breastfeeding
- acute infection, cold sores or inflamed skin in the area
- known intolerance to hyaluronic acid products or certain autoimmune conditions
The final assessment is made in the medical examination.
How it works.
1. Consultation. We talk about your goal, look at the lips and the surrounding area, and go through previous illnesses, medication and earlier treatments. That includes saying what is not advisable.
2. Preparation. The lip is cleaned and numbing cream can be applied. Many fillers also contain a local anaesthetic.
3. Injection. The hyaluronic acid is placed in small portions with a fine needle or a blunt cannula, with the shape checked continuously.
4. Afterwards. Swelling in the first few days is normal – the final result shows after about two weeks. Avoid sport, sauna, swimming pools and strong heat for 3–4 days. A follow-up appointment is possible at any time.
What you should know.
Swelling, redness, tenderness and small bruises are common after treatment and usually settle within a few days. Less common are small nodules, asymmetry or inflammation. Very rare but serious is a vascular occlusion – which is why anatomical knowledge, technique and medical emergency competence are essential. Hyaluronic acid fillers can be dissolved again with the enzyme hyaluronidase if needed. The treatment is not suitable with acute infections in the area, known intolerances, or during pregnancy and breastfeeding, among others. This information does not replace the medical consultation required by German law (§ 630e BGB).

Frequently asked questions.
Will people see straight away that I had something done?
Swelling in the first days is normal and makes the lip look temporarily fuller than the final result. We assess the outcome after about two weeks.
How many millilitres do I need?
That can only be said after looking at your lips. Often 0.5 ml is enough to define contour and shape. We prefer to work in small steps.
Does it hurt?
The lip is sensitive. Numbing cream can be used and many fillers contain an anaesthetic. Most people find the treatment well tolerable.
Can the result be reversed?
Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved medically with the enzyme hyaluronidase. That is one reason this material is so widely used in aesthetic medicine.
When should I not be treated?
Among others with acute infections or cold sores in the area, known intolerances, and during pregnancy and breastfeeding. This is checked medically before treatment.
