In your 50s.
The decade in which aesthetics can achieve the most – and must speak most honestly about its limits. What a rested face at 55 needs and what it does not.

Between 50 and 59 volume loss, thinner skin and first slackening shape the picture. What hyaluronic acid at support points, skin boosters
Typical in this decade.
What shows: after menopause the skin rapidly loses collagen; it becomes thinner, drier, crepey. Temples, cheeks and chin have noticeably lost support – nasolabial and marionette lines deepen, jowls begin, the jawline blurs. Expression lines have become static. Neck and décolleté show lines and pigment.
What can make sense: volume at the support points – cheekbone, temple, chin, jawline – with hyaluronic acid, often three to four millilitres spread over two sessions. Botulinum toxin for frown line, forehead, crow's feet and platysma. Polynucleotides or skin boosters for face, neck, décolleté, hands. Microneedling with PRP in winter. If needed injection lipolysis for the double chin.
Where the limit lies: marked skin excess, deeply hanging jowls, a slack neck – here every injection only adds and makes the face heavier. A surgical lift is then the more honest answer; aesthetics complements it afterwards. A reputable practice names this point – even if it means not selling a treatment.
Plan and budget: build-up over six months, then maintenance. Realistically 2,000 to 3,500 euros in the first year, less afterwards. Without sun protection and care every budget is wasted.
At a glance.
| What shows | What can make sense | What is usually too early or too much |
|---|---|---|
| Cheeks, temples hollow | HA at support points, 3–4 ml over 2 sessions | filling folds directly |
| Crepey skin face/neck | polynucleotides, skin boosters, PRP | filler in crepey lines |
| Static expression lines | botulinum toxin + little HA | high dose (rigid) |
| Mild jowls | jawline, cheekbone, platysma Botox | with skin excess: injection instead of lift |
| Neck, décolleté, hands | skin boosters, sun protection, retinoid | laser on thin skin |
| Double chin | lipolysis with good skin | lipolysis with slack skin |
Age is a rough orientation, not a treatment plan. What matters is findings, skin condition and wish – after examination and consent (§ 630e BGB). Nobody 'must' do anything at a certain age.

Frequently asked questions.
Is 55 too late for Botox?
No. Static lines will not disappear but become shallower; and the expression looks more relaxed. Combined with skin treatment the effect is clear.
How do I know whether I need a lift?
If you can clearly shift the skin on cheek or neck and filler would only make it heavier. That is assessed honestly in the consultation.
