Tear trough & under-eye hollows.

A shadow under the eye is often not tiredness but a hollow between the lower lid and the cheek. In suitable cases, hyaluronic acid can carefully even out that hollow. Whether your findings are suitable is assessed medically beforehand.

Medical assessment of the eye area before treatment in Essen
In short

Under-eye hollows and tear trough filler in Essen: who it suits, the procedure, risks and prices from €290 – medically performed in Essen-Rüttenscheid.

Background

Where the shadow comes from.

Under the eye, thin skin, little subcutaneous fat and firm connective tissue meet. When volume in the tear trough decreases, a hollow forms that reads as a dark shadow in side light.

But under-eye shadows have several causes: volume loss, pigmentation, vessels showing through, skin laxity or protruding fat pads. Only the first responds well to filler – which is why the examination beforehand is decisive.

If filler is not suitable, we say so plainly. Sometimes skin-quality treatments, an ophthalmological or dermatological work-up, or simply patience is the better route.

Who is it for?

Who it is for – and who it is not for.

A good fit if …

  • volume loss, contours or lines visible at rest
  • a wish for a natural, reversible result
  • healthy adults with realistic expectations

Rather not if …

  • pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • acute infection, cold sores or inflamed skin in the area
  • known intolerance to hyaluronic acid products or certain autoimmune conditions
Procedure

How it works.

1. Assessment. We look at skin thickness, volume proportions, lid swelling and pigmentation – and whether filler makes sense in your case at all.

2. Technique. Treatment preferably uses a blunt cannula and very small amounts of a soft, suitable filler, placed deep.

3. Afterwards. Swelling and small bruises are more common here than elsewhere. Avoid sport, sauna and heat for a few days; sleeping with your head slightly raised can help.

4. Review. The result is assessed after about two to four weeks. Better to place little and add than too much at once.

Risks & suitability

What you should know.

The area under the eye is especially thin and well supplied with blood: swelling and bruising are more common here and can stay visible for a few days. Unevenness, a bluish discolouration (Tyndall effect) or temporary fluid retention are also possible. Very rare but serious is a vascular occlusion – which is why this area is treated with particular caution and only where the anatomy is suitable. Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved again with hyaluronidase if needed. Not every type of under-eye shadow can be treated with filler: with marked skin laxity, pronounced fat pads or purely pigment-related shadows, a different approach makes more sense. This information does not replace the medical consultation required by German law (§ 630e BGB).

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Will my dark circles disappear completely?

Not necessarily. A shadow caused by missing volume can often be softened. Pigment-related circles, or skin so thin that vessels show through, barely respond to filler.

How long will I look swollen?

Mild swelling usually lasts a few days. Bruises can stay visible somewhat longer in this area – don't schedule important events right afterwards.

Is the treatment dangerous?

The eye area is one of the most demanding regions. That is why it is only treated where the findings are suitable, with small amounts and careful technique. Risks are explained in detail beforehand.

What if I don't like the result?

Hyaluronic acid can be dissolved medically with hyaluronidase.

How long does it last?

In the tear trough typically about 9–18 months, depending on product and metabolism.
