In a PRP treatment, platelet-rich plasma is prepared from your own blood and injected into the scalp. The aim is to support the hair roots in their natural regeneration. The treatment is carried out personally by the physician in Essen-Rüttenscheid.

## What PRP actually is.

PRP stands for **platelet-rich plasma**. A small amount of blood is drawn and separated in a centrifuge. The plasma-rich fraction contains platelets with the body's own growth factors.

This plasma is then injected into the **scalp in the affected area** using fine needles. The idea is to support the environment around the hair root. Because only your own material is used, there is no risk of intolerance to a foreign substance.

**An honest note:** PRP does not cure hair loss and does not bring back hair that is already gone. How pronounced a result is varies from person to person and depends on the cause and stage of the hair loss. Whether the treatment makes sense in your case is something we discuss first.

## The treatment in numbers.

- **Duration:** approx. 45 minutes
- **Material:** your own plasma
- **Sessions:** usually several
- **Price:** from €250

## Who it is for – and who it is not for.

**A good fit if …**
- early, diffuse hair loss with still-active follicles
- willingness for several sessions and a medical work-up of the cause
- healthy adults without a coagulation disorder

**Rather not if …**
- completely bald areas without active follicles
- coagulation disorders, certain blood conditions or blood thinners without consultation
- pregnancy or breastfeeding

The final assessment is made in the medical examination.

## How the treatment works.

**1. History and examination.** We look at your scalp and hair situation and talk about previous illnesses, medication and earlier treatments. Not all hair loss has the same cause – sometimes an internal medical work-up is the more sensible first step.

**2. Blood draw and preparation.** Blood is taken as in a normal blood test and centrifuged, which takes a few minutes.

**3. Injections.** The plasma is injected superficially into the scalp with very fine needles. Most patients describe a brief pinch.

**4. Afterwards.** The scalp may be red or tender for a short time. Avoid sport, sauna and swimming pools for a few days; washing your hair is usually fine the next day. Several sessions a few weeks apart are usual, with medical review of how things develop.

## What you should know.

As with any injection treatment, side effects are possible: redness, swelling, tenderness or small bruises at the injection sites, which usually settle within a few days. Infections or lasting complaints are rare. Whether the treatment is suitable in your case is assessed medically beforehand – for example with clotting disorders, blood-thinning medication, acute scalp inflammation, pregnancy and breastfeeding. This information does not replace the medical consultation required by German law (§ 630e BGB).

## Frequently asked questions.

**Who is PRP for hair loss suitable for?**

That can only be said after a history and examination. The cause and stage of the hair loss matter, as do previous illnesses and medication. In some cases further work-up comes first.

**How many sessions are needed?**

Usually several sessions a few weeks apart. How many applies in your case is decided individually and reviewed as treatment progresses.

The injections use very fine needles. The scalp is sensitive, but most people describe a brief pinch. Tell us if you are very sensitive to pain.

**Can I go back to work straight away?**

Usually yes. The scalp may be red for a short while. Avoid sport, sauna and swimming pools for a few days.

**Does health insurance cover it?**

No, this is a self-paid service, invoiced according to the German scale of fees for physicians (GOÄ).
