Lines that remain visible with a relaxed face – through volume loss, gravity and skin ageing. The domain of hyaluronic acid and skin-quality treatments.

## A closer look.

Static lines are 'written into' the skin: they remain when no muscle is working. They come from three sources – former expression lines that deepened over years, volume loss that lets skin descend and fold (nasolabial, marionette lines), and skin ageing itself: less collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid.

Treatment follows the cause. Sunken lines are cushioned with hyaluronic acid or – better – relieved by volume in the surroundings. Fine, crinkly lines respond to skin boosters, polynucleotides, PRP and microneedling, which improve skin quality.

Botulinum toxin alone does not smooth static lines but can stop expression movement from deepening them further; that is why both procedures are often combined. Very deep lines that have existed for decades can be softened, not removed – an honest consultation says so beforehand.

## At a glance.

- **Visible:** also at rest
- **Causes:** volume, gravity, ageing
- **Treatment:** hyaluronic acid, skin quality
- **Botulinum toxin:** only complementary

## Frequently asked questions.

**Why didn't Botox remove my line?**

Because it has become static. Botulinum toxin stops the movement but does not fill the written-in line.

**Which treatment first?**

Usually botulinum toxin first against the movement, assessment after two weeks, then volume if needed.
