# Neck and *décolleté.*

The face is cared for, protected, treated – the neck gets what is left. Yet it often gives away age first.

## Why the neck ages faster.

**The anatomy:** the skin of neck and décolleté is thin, has fewer sebaceous glands and less fat padding than the face. It dries out faster, replaces less collagen and – because the collar is open – gets decades of unprotected sun. Add the platysma muscle, which forms bands over the years and pulls the lower jaw downward.

**What you see:** horizontal neck lines ('tech neck', even in younger people from looking at the phone), vertical neck bands, slack skin under the chin, crinkles in the décolleté (at night from side sleeping), red and brown patches (poikiloderma) from sun.

**Basis – care and protection:** everything applied to the face belongs on neck and décolleté too: sunscreen daily, retinol in low concentration, moisture. Sleeping on the back measurably reduces décolleté lines. Unspectacular, but half the success.

**Skin boosters and polynucleotides:** the most effective injection treatment for crepey skin on neck and décolleté: moisture, elasticity and skin thickness improve over two to three sessions. They do not smooth deep horizontal lines but make the skin visibly fresher.

**Botulinum toxin in the platysma:** relaxes the neck bands and the downward pull – the jawline looks clearer ('Nefertiti lift'). Effect three to four months; the dose must be chosen carefully because swallowing and neck muscles are nearby.

**Microneedling and PRP:** for skin texture, pigment and fine lines, several sessions, in winter.
**What does not work:** hyaluronic acid filler in horizontal lines (visible, short-lived), any injection with marked skin excess – there a neck lift is the honest answer. And: no treatment replaces the sunscreen that was skipped for 20 years.

## Frequently asked questions.

**Can horizontal neck lines be treated with Botox?**

Only to a limited extent. Horizontal lines are static; botulinum toxin relaxes the platysma pull but does not smooth the line. Skin boosters and care are more sensible here.

**Does hyaluronic acid help with décolleté lines?**

As a skin booster (thin, spread over the area) yes. As a classic filler into the individual line rather not – it shows.
