'For me it never lasts as long as promised.' There are reasons – some you can influence, others not. What actually determines durability.

## What determines durability.

**Botulinum toxin – three to five months.** Shorter with strong muscles (men, masseter), high metabolism, intense sport, a very low dose and in the first treatments. Longer after several regular treatments because the muscle 'unlearns' working hard. That is the only proven way to extend the effect: treat regularly, don't wait until everything is back.

**Hyaluronic acid – six to eighteen months.** Depends on product (degree of cross-linking), area (lips shorter, cheeks longer), amount and individual breakdown. Sun, smoking and high oxidative stress measurably accelerate breakdown. The second treatment often lasts longer than the first because remnants of the gel are still present.

**Proven helpful:** consistent sun protection, not smoking, regular rather than rare treatments, an adequate dose the first time, no sauna or massage in the first week after fillers.

**Not proven (myths):** zinc supplements for botulinum toxin, special creams, 'hyaluronic capsules', giving up coffee, facial exercises (counterproductive with botulinum toxin – they train the muscle). Anyone hearing such tips as a sales argument should be sceptical.

**Stay realistic:** durability is a range, not a promise. A practice can influence it through dose and product choice, not promise it. Discussing the duration at the check-up usually leads to a dose that fits.

## The essentials.

- **Botulinum toxin:** 3–5 months, longer with regularity
- **Hyaluronic acid:** 6–18 months, by area
- **Proven:** sun protection, not smoking
- **Myth:** zinc, facial exercises

This text is general information. It replaces neither a medical examination nor the consultation required before any treatment under German law (§ 630e BGB). Whether and which treatment is suitable for you can only be said after examination and consultation. No treatment results are promised.

## Frequently asked questions.

**Does zinc really help Botox last longer?**

One small study suggested it but it was not confirmed. It does no harm but is not a reliable effect.

**Does Botox last longer if I take more units?**

Somewhat, yes – at the price of less expression. The right dose is the one with which you look natural.
