'I want a nicer jawline' can mean two opposites: more edge or less width. Which treatment achieves which goal.

## Build up or slim down.

**Jawline with hyaluronic acid** builds up the jaw edge: deposits along the lower jaw and at the jaw angle draw a clear line between face and neck, mask mild jowls and give – especially in men – a more defined profile. Two to four millilitres are usual, durability twelve to eighteen months.

**Botulinum toxin in the masseter** does the opposite: the chewing muscle, thickened by grinding or genetics, is relaxed and shrinks over months. The lower face becomes narrower, the shape more oval – a common wish with a wide, square face. Effect visible after four to six weeks, durability four to six months.

**Which face, which treatment:** soft, poorly defined jawline, receding chin, first jowls – hyaluronic acid. Wide lower face, thickened chewing muscles, bruxism – masseter Botox. Sometimes both: slim the masseter and at the same time define the chin line with hyaluronic acid.

**What neither can do:** remove marked skin excess or a double chin – that is what injection lipolysis or surgery is for. And: masseter Botox in a narrow face can look hollow; jawline filler in a wide face makes it wider.

## The essentials.

- **Hyaluronic acid:** build the edge
- **Masseter Botox:** reduce width
- **Often combined:** narrower + more defined
- **Not suitable:** with skin excess

This text is general information. It replaces neither a medical examination nor the consultation required before any treatment under German law (§ 630e BGB). Whether and which treatment is suitable for you can only be said after examination and consultation. No treatment results are promised.

## Frequently asked questions.

**My face is wide but the line is soft – what first?**

Usually the masseter first, because the face changes over three months; then it can be judged whether hyaluronic acid at the chin line is still needed.

**Does the chewing muscle get weaker?**

Temporarily the force is reduced; everyday chewing stays unproblematic. After the effect ends, full force returns.
